Teaching….There’s an App for That!
I have loved using my iPhone in my classroom this year. My students and I put together this video talking showing how it has become an essential tool in our classroom:
Here’s a list of some of the apps that I use frequently in the classroom:
The Camera – I use it constantly for still shots and video. I always have a camera I can use, so convenient.
WordPress – quick updates with pictures and text to the class blog, http://ififth.edublogs.org/ This worked amazingly on class trip to Chicago, parents were constantly updated about what we were doing!
Mobile Me and Flickit – to upload picts to galleries linked to our webpage,
Gorillacam – handy tools for taking picts.
Slacker – We listen to the Christian music station in the morning before school.
Bible – You Version – for class devotions, Bible class, chapel.
Weather Channel – to check weather for potential snowdays and special events!
Kindle – ebook reader – sometimes as a special treat I let the kids use my phone to read, they love it!
Google Voice Search – to get data for math, to answer questions.
Lose It – nutrition info for diabetic student.
Dictionary – I let the kids look up words if they ask me for a spelling or definition.
Maps and Google Earth – locations on field trips.
iGradelite – grade average percentages, replaces that little grade slider tool.
Number Key – turns my phone into a wireless keypad for entering grades into my laptop. Love this!!
Clock – I use this constantly as a timer, kids love it when I use wacky sound effects to signal the end time.
Guitar Tuner – to tune my guitar.
Audio Boo – post student reflections at the end of a lesson. Uploads quickly, files are linked to class page or can be embedded into blog.
iTalk Lite – I put students in the hall to record podcasts, it works like a digital voice recorder, and then has wireless download of files to iTunes for further editing in Garageband. Love this!
Noise Control – Use as a fun tool for times when quiet is needed.
NBC Cheer – An app from the Olympics, I use fun sound effects to cheer students when they give good answers!
Those are main ones that come to mind. I would love it if other educators would add comments to share the apps that are an essential part of their iPhone Teacher Tool Kit!

Wow! I thought I was watching cable television with and this was an advertisement for Apple. I especially liked the “shhhh” app. Does it really work that well? If so, send me two:). Great job!
